Dan Karnowsky

Dan is an attorney who has practiced in both
Indiana and Michigan for over 25 years. In
2000, Dan came to California to act as
General Counsel for Initiative Media, which
at that time was the largest independent
purchaser of media in the world. The Los
Angeles based company was acquired by an
advertising conglomerate, and all corporate
functions were eventually transitioned to
New York City. Dan, however, chose to stay
in Southern California.
While in private practice, Dan acted as a
Receiver and represented Receivers in State
Court cases. He has also represented
Trustees in US Bankruptcy Court. He has
served as Judge Pro- Tem, in addition to
mediator in the Michigan District Courts.
Dan has extensive experience in consumer and
commercial collection matters, as well as
insolvency issues. Dan is also experienced
in out-of-court work-outs and settlements
from both in his private practice cases and
while in-house at Initiative.
In 2003, Dan joined with Mosier & Co. to
oversee the day-to-day administration of an
Investment and Retirement Account Management
operation that was placed into Receivership
by the SEC. During this assignment, he
negotiated out of leases and oversaw the
administration and eventual sale of the
business that provided back-room support for
roughly 220 pension plans.
Dan earned his BA from Wabash College and
his JD from Indiana University Law School.
He also completed a six month foreign study
program at Waseda University in Tokyo Japan.
Dan has served on various Bar Association
Committees in both Indiana and Michigan and
has been a Seminar presenter/speaker on
numerous occasions. In addition, he taught
Business Law as an adjunct professor at
Indiana Central University in Indianapolis,
Indiana.
